About
On 20-24 March, VMU and Kaunas once again bustled with the spirit of the European university, as a sizeable academic crowd from all over the world has come to visit us. The Transform4Europe Week organised by Vytautas Magnus University brought a lot of excitement with a variety of activities including tours, film screenings, creative workshops, and discussions.
On this occasion, around 100 students and university employees from T4EU universities not only exchanged knowledge but also discussed the vision of a joint future university.
During the week, lectures were taught by experts from Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Italy. The topics they tackled include nuclear industry, European industrial culture, borderlands, urban ethnography, and Kaunas on its way to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The overall focus of the T4EU week this time was the Critical Heritage course, which dealt with the difficult legacies of modernity and the Cold War.
Apart from lectures, participants were also able to enjoy guided tours on industrial sites and modernist architecture in Kaunas, an audiovisual city walk “The Spirit’s Guide to the Old City”, a movie night, and other intriguing events. In addition to stimulating intellectual discussions related to nationalism, colonialism, and heritage, participants also received a captivating introduction to Kaunas, met many new people from various corners of Europe and got acquainted with different cultures.
The T4EU Week also coincided with the meetings of the T4EU Management Board and the T4EU Student Council. Another important message to VMU community: the university’s student Gustė Žukauskaitė has been elected the President of the T4EU Student Council.
All students who successfully completed all tasks during the week and prepared a final project independently received 6 ECTS credits for their studies in each of the T4EU Alliance’s universities.
The week’s events were attended by students and employees from all partner universities of the Transform4Europe Alliance.
