Invitation

The development of quantum computers is twofold: On the one hand, there is the aspect of „hardware“ aiming at constructing actual quantum computers; on the other hand, there is the „software“ side, the use and programming of these future machines. In our talk, we will focus on the latter one. More precisely, we will give a brief introduction and overview on quantum information theory, an exciting and truly interdisciplinary field at the intersection of mathematics, computer science and physics. What are qubits, superposition and entanglement, what are the principles of quantum algorithms and interesting examples, to what extent are quantum computers different/better than classical computers? We will discuss all these questions. The talk will be accessible for non-experts; in particular, absolutely no knowledge on quantum physics, software development or higher mathematics is needed.
