The Silesian Museum is a regional museum, a cultural institution co-run by the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The Silesian Museum has become the most important cultural center in the region, an extremely important place of social life in Silesia, and a significant voice on the cultural map of Poland. The aim of the Museum is to preserve and present local history and art. What is also crucial is that the Museum is placed in a former industrial site of a coal mine, which makes it a unique example of how design and art can transform post-industrial regions. The variety of Museum collections scopes from archeology through art, photography, ethnography, history, and theatre stage design.
