Transform4Europe T-Lab brings entrepreneurship to Saarland University

About

Under a blue sky and with the first hints of summer hanging in the air, enthusiastic students, researchers and entrepreneurs from all over Europe met on the Saarland University campus from 27 to 30 April 2026. The occasion? The Transform4Europe alliance hosted several parallel events in Saarbrücken – the T4EU Bootcamp, the T-Lab Fair and the Science Café – fostering entrepreneurship and bringing new life to European networking and dialogue.

T4EU Bootcamp: From idea to pitch in only four days

Bootcamp participants from various countries and disciplines came together for four days to develop an idea into an entrepreneurial solution to one of today’s pressing societal issues.

Working in interdisciplinary teams, participants went through the process of founding a start-up, from defining the problem and developing an idea to analysing the target group, creating a business plan, prototyping and finally fashioning a convincing pitch. The bootcamp also hosted workshops on design thinking, lean start-ups, financial planning and pitching, helping participants to hone key skills through discussions, campus tours and networking walks.

“My team started with employee fear of AI replacement and ended up with a service concept to help organisations support their people through the AI transition. The jury picked us as winners, which was great! But honestly the best part was the team! And we’re not stopping here. Our idea is too good to be left on a pitch desk.” (Ramunė Bagočiūnaitė, VMU Kaunas)

“The bootcamp was once again an enriching experience. Beyond just learning more about founding start-ups, I was also able to make new friends from across Europe who I will even meet up with again soon. These connections are exactly what make the T4EU network so valuable and what really motivates me to apply to participate in other events.” (Nicolas Ruby, Saarland University)

T4EU Fair: Dialogue, insight and local innovation

At the same time, the T-Lab Fair gave participants a forum to discuss entrepreneurial thinking and innovation processes.

The programme included the opportunity to get input from peers and get matched with like-minded collaborators as well as various presentations of projects currently being undertaken within the T4EU alliance. The event also shined a spotlight on the local innovation landscape, featuring visits to the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and giving participants first-hand insights into the close interconnection of cutting-edge research and start-up culture here in Saarland. Presentations and Q&A sessions with local start-ups rounded out the programme.

“The experience was just great. The organization was smooth, the international group environment was perfect, and I met amazing inspiring individuals. After coming back from the Fair, I’m full of inspiration for my projects.” (Viktoriia Piatnytska, VMU Kaunas)

“I truly enjoyed the T-Lab Fair. One of the most valuable takeaways for me was gaining the confidence to not be afraid of starting my own project. It also reinforced how important it is to communicate with others and learn from different perspectives. The atmosphere within the international groups was very engaging. I really appreciated the diversity of ideas and backgrounds which made the teamwork both interesting and inspiring.” (Mira Alzaeem, University of Trieste)
