T4EU at the European Universities Alliances Coordinators Working Retreat in Brussels

About

On 14 April 2026, the European Universities Alliances Coordinators Working Retreat took place in Brussels, bringing together coordinators from across the European Universities Initiative for an intensive one day exchange. T4EU was represented by Carola Hodyas and Lukas Redemann from Saarland University.

The retreat focused on several key strategic topics shaping the future of European University Alliances. One central theme was the future Erasmus+ action supporting the alliances, with discussions addressing the design of the programme for the 2028–2034 funding period. Participants explored potential future funding models, as well as developments related to student and staff mobility and the international cooperation dimension of the alliances.

Another major focus was the role of European University Alliances within their broader ecosystems. Coordinators reflected on how alliances can contribute more effectively to EU competitiveness and support the completion of the European Research Area, particularly in strategically important sectors.

The programme also included in depth discussions on performance monitoring, with an emphasis on how to better capture institutional transformation processes and how to streamline reporting and review procedures across alliances.
Overall, the working retreat provided a valuable platform for strategic reflection, peer exchange and networking, supporting closer cooperation and a shared perspective on the next development phase of the European Universities Initiative.
