Experts from Estonia, Ireland and Brazil will visit UCP and UA

Professors selected by T4EU’s Visiting Professorship Programme

Martin Ebers, University of Tartu, Estonia, Fiona Timmins, University College Dublin, Ireland, and Magnus Luiz Emmendoerfer, Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, are the three academics selected for Transform4Europe‘s Visiting Professorship Programme, an initiative designed to foster cross-border collaboration, advance innovative teaching and research, and enhance civic engagement within the Alliance and beyond.

The Visiting Professorship Programme aims to build bridges between institutions, disciplines and societies. Each selected project will enrich the classrooms, research environments and civic missions of participating universities, while strengthening long-term cooperation in Europe and beyond.

The innovative projects of the selected experts will contribute to the Alliance’s core missions of digital transformation, sustainability, and social inclusion, while building bridges between disciplines, cultures, and societies.

Martin Ebers

A leading scholar in IT Law and President of the Robotics and AI Law Society (RAILS), will deliver an intensive and interdisciplinary course on The Regulation of Artificial Intelligence in the European Union, addressing the legal, ethical, and operational implications of the upcoming European Union AI Act. His 14-day teaching and research stay, equally divided between Universidade Católica and Universidad de Alicante, aims to connect academic research to the societal challenges posed by emerging technologies.

Working closely with the MetaverseUA Chair in Alicante and the PLMJ Chair in Law and Technology in Lisbon, Prof. Ebers will promote a collaborative agenda including joint research, teaching modules, and potential academic events. His visit reflects T4EU’s strong commitment to digital transformation, responsible innovation, and the development of a European framework for AI governance.

Under the topic ‘The Regulation of Artificial Intelligence in Europe’, Martin Ebers will visit the Católica Global School of Law during the spring semester of 2025–2026, where he will be welcomed by Giovanni De Gregorio, while at the University of Alicante he will be welcomed by Aurelio Martins from the Department of Philosophy of Law and International Law.

 

Fiona Timmins

Coming from University College Dublin, Fiona Timmins will visit the Universidade Católica Portuguesa from 15 to 26 June 2026, at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing, where she will be welcomed by Director Ana Mineiro Zaky, and the University of Alicante from 19 to 23 June 2027, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, where she will be welcomed by Rocío Juliá-Sanchis.

Fiona Timmins, Dean and Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems at University College Dublin, will lead an International Seminar on Nursing Research connecting doctoral and early-stage researchers across the Alliance. 

The expert’s visit will include dissertation seminars, intensive scientific writing workshops and a lecture on spiritual care at the end of life, emphasising the integration of humanistic and scientific approaches in nursing education.

At both the Universidade Católica and Alicante, Fiona Timmins’ work will strengthen interdisciplinary research capacity and enhance training for young scholars, embodying Transform4Europe’s mission to promote inclusive, high-quality education and tangible societal impact in health and social care fields.

 

Magnus Luiz Emmendoerfer

Professor at the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, will visit the School of Arts at the Universidade Católica, where he will be welcomed by Luís Teixeira, and the Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries in Alicante, where he will be welcomed by Tatiana Hidalgo Marí, during the spring semester of 2026/2027.

Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Creative Economy and Public Policy, Magnus Luiz Emmendoerfer brings a Global South–North perspective to Transform4Europe. His stay will focus on Public Policy Governance, Creative Economy, and Sustainable Territorial Development, engaging students, researchers, and local communities in a transdisciplinary dialogue about the intersections between creativity, sustainability, and participatory governance.

The programme will include lectures, seminars, intensive courses and collaborative research activities, with the aim of developing innovative approaches to public policy and creative economies. The expert’s visit will also outline a long-term sustainability and evaluation strategy, ensuring lasting impact through institutional partnerships, joint academic outputs and digital collaboration tools. Their contribution reflects T4EU’s pillars of Sustainability and Civic Engagement, reinforcing the Alliance’s commitment to shaping resilient and creative societies.
