About
The LETSGROW Training: Rapid Prototyping Workshop is a two-day, practice-oriented program designed for university staff, scientists, researchers, and doctoral students who want to explore how ideas can be quickly transformed into tangible prototypes. Taking place on April 22–23, from 9:00 to 17:00 CET, at the FabLab Innovation Center, Saarland University (Building A2.1), Saarbrücken, the workshop offers participants an inspiring environment to learn, experiment, and collaborate.
Throughout the training, participants will be introduced to the core principles and methods of rapid prototyping using both analog and digital tools. The workshop combines short conceptual inputs with extensive hands-on work, allowing attendees to directly apply what they learn. In interdisciplinary teams, participants will develop their own ideas and turn them into early-stage prototypes, supported by the facilities and equipment of a fully equipped FabLab.
A central focus of the workshop is the practical use of prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and microcontrollers. At the same time, the training emphasizes the importance of creativity, user-centered thinking, feasibility, and iterative development. Participants will not only learn how to build prototypes, but also how to use prototyping as a tool for testing assumptions, improving concepts, and communicating ideas more effectively.
The workshop is led by Jannik Jost and Daniel Silva from Saarland University. By the end of the two days, each team will present its results in a final pitch, showcasing the prototypes developed during the workshop and reflecting on the process behind them.
