привіт!

Greetings from Mariupol State University – the ambassador of Mariupol in Ukraine and around the world.

Our institution was founded in 1991, the year Ukraine declared its independence. During those transformative times, the industrial city of Mariupol needed not only technical specialists but also teachers of history, Ukrainian language, and literature, as demand for these professions grew. Over the years, Mariupol State University became renowned for its focus on the humanities.

We were proud to host a unique Faculty of Greek Philology, unmatched in Ukraine and most European countries, reflecting the rich heritage of the largest Greek diaspora in Ukraine, residing in the Pryazovskyi region. Yet, we didn’t stop there. We evolved into a classical university, offering studies in social, natural, and technical sciences. With over 5,000 students, six academic buildings, a sports complex, and a dormitory, Mariupol State University flourished in its native city.

Education in uncertain times

Mariupol was a promising and vibrant city, deserving of its title as a pro-European hub, integrating the best international practices. However, when Russia launched its full-scale war, the city was destroyed and occupied by the enemy. To ensure the continuity of education and enable students to pursue Ukrainian education, the university relocated to Kyiv.

Here, with the support of colleagues from Ukraine and Europe, we not only managed to rebuild from scratch but embarked on a reimagined journey, creating a new Mariupol State University.

Our educational environment is among the most modern and digitalized in Ukraine. This allows students to learn both in comfortable classrooms and remotely via an online portal. Everything – from class schedules to grades – is accessible through a personal account on our website.

Thanks to European donors, the university now houses state-of-the-art laboratories, including drone technology, inclusive and STEM education, and cybersecurity – the best-equipped in Ukraine. To ensure safety during air raid alerts, we have a technologically equipped shelter for students and staff.

We look forward to welcoming everyone, both in the capital of Ukraine and in our beloved Mariupol!

Future Prospects

For future development, the government has provided us with a large campus space in Kyiv, with buildings designated for a modern university campus. After the liberation and Victory of Ukraine, Mariupol State University will resume its work in its hometown while continuing its mission in Kyiv.
