’SAFE’ Fellowship Programme for At-risk Researchers
About
The SAFE project provides EUR 12 million in EU funding to support at-risk researchers facing persecution due to factors such as conflict, academic repression, and identity-based threats. Administered by a consortium led by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), with partners including UNIMED, Campus France, and Collège de France/PAUSE, SAFE offers fellowships between 12-24 months for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to work in EU-based institutions. Eligible candidates include those outside the EU with neither refugee nor subsidiary protection status and those in the EU with protection status or temporary residence permits. The goal of SAFE is to protect academic freedom and provide a safe working environment for researchers facing persecution, conflict, or discrimination. The application process opens on 18 November 2024, and the programme offers a matchmaking service for both host institutions and researchers to facilitate placements.
