About
The latest episode of the Transform4Europe podcast Reach Out, co-produced by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, invites you to reflect on the concept of the circular economy and its transformative potential for a more sustainable future.
Under the topic “Circular Economy – General Concept and Theme Introduction”, the episode features Maria Manuela Pintado, Director of the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistryat Católica, and Guido Bortoluzzi, Professor of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Trieste and coordinator of the doctoral programme in Circular Economy at the same institution.
Moderated by Beatriz Bernardes, PhD student in Biotechnology and Católica’s representative at Transform4Europe’s Student Council, the conversation explores how circular thinking can transform the way we design, produce and consume, with a focus on minimising waste, regenerating resources and integrating sustainability into all stages of the value chain.
The guests discuss the central principles of the circular economy, covering topics such as eco-design, the bioeconomy, industrial symbiosis and life cycle thinking, with a special focus on minimising waste and regenerating resources throughout the value chain.
Recorded during the Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s Innovation Day – which marked the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Biotechnology and the 5th edition of the T4EU Science Café – the episode reinforces the role of science and academia in building technological and economically viable solutions to today’s environmental challenges.
This discussion is part of a two-part episode with the second episode of the podcast on the subject coming out soon.
