About

This June, Slovenia becomes an open-air learning hub! From 15–28 June 2026, MSc and PhD students from around the world are invited to join the international summer school Alpine Europe: The Role of Wood in Europe’s Goal to be a “Climate Neutral Continent”, organised by the University of Primorska in collaboration with Oregon State University.

This intensive summer school offers a hands-on, interdisciplinary learning experience focused on wood, sustainability, and climate-neutral development in Europe. Participants will explore the entire wood value chain – “from forest floor to living room floor” – through field visits to forests, advanced manufacturing facilities, innovative timber buildings, and research centres across Slovenia.

The programme combines expert-led lectures with real-world case studies, highlighting the transition from a linear to a circular economy and showcasing the principles of the  New European Bauhaus: sustainability, beauty, and inclusiveness.
What participants gain:

  • Advanced insight into forest management and wood-based construction
  • Practical understanding of circular economy approaches
  • International academic collaboration and presentation experience
  • 6 ECTS credits upon successful completion

Learning beyond the classroom
Alongside academic activities, students will experience Slovenia’s cultural and natural diversity – from Ljubljana and Bled to Bohinj, Bovec, Izola, and Piran – with opportunities for informal networking, outdoor activities, and cultural exploration.

If you’re looking for an intensive, international summer learning experience that connects research, sustainability, and practice, this summer school is for you.

Deadline for applications: 28 February 2026
