This course provides an introduction to the sociological and anthropological analysis of humanity and particular societies. It introduces the main sociological and anthropological approaches and conceptions. The course proceeds to the analysis of culture, socialization, family, gender, religion, social stratification; examines the phenomena of holism, cultural relativism, intercultural comparison, emic/etic, kinship, reciprocity systems of exchange, rituals, etc. Results to be achieved: students will be able to understand the principles of sociological and anthropological analysis, to interpret and explain the main sociological and anthropological concepts. Teaching methods used in the course: theoretical lectures, in-class discussions, study of theoretical literature.
