This course offers an overview of the discipline of ethnology with a particular focus on the socio-cultural field. General competences: students will get acquainted with basic concepts, ideas, and technical terminology of ethnological science and its relation to anthropology and ethnography. They will get deeper insights into dilemmas and open questions as well as they will familiarize with its methods and applicative aspects. Specific competences: the course aims to illustrate how ethnology can be applied to various contexts within the framework of cross-cultural understanding and intercultural competence to encourage students to develop critical thinking and reflect upon ethnocentric views.
