Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) is a leading institution in the Baltic region, known for its commitment to the principles of artes liberales. Established in 1922 and named after Vytautas the Great in 1930, VMU was re-established in 1989 after being closed by the soviet regime.

The university offers a broad spectrum of study programs: 54 first cycle study programmes, 71 second cycle study programmes, and 24 third cycle study programmes, with many available in English.

VMU is actively involved in European projects such as Transform4Europe, and emphasizes a student-centered model, high international standards in education, and significant contributions to research and the arts.

Research at VMU focuses on areas such as digital transformation and smart regions, environmental sustainability, and societal transformation. The university has a strong record of innovative projects and collaborations, contributing significantly to both Lithuanian and global cultural and academic development. Major accomplishments include bringing 70 innovative products to market, creating 5 spin-offs, and establishing more than 40 projects with business entities.

Location

Vytautas Magnus University is located in Kaunas, the second-largest city in Lithuania. VMU benefits from Kaunas’s vibrant cultural, economic, and academic environment. The city is well-connected by public transportation, allowing easy access to the university’s various campuses and facilities. Additionally, one of VMU’s faculties, the Education Academy, is located in the capital city of Lithuania, Vilnius. This allows the university to extend its reach and influence within the country.

 

Transportation

To reach Kaunas from Kaunas Airport, take the direct bus route 29G. This bus connects the airport with the city center, including stops at the bus and railway stations. The buses are red and the ticket costs 1 EUR if purchased from the driver. Alternatively, you can buy a Kaunas City Card for 1.50 EUR, which can be topped up with money or tickets. In Kaunas, public transportation is served by an extensive network of buses and trolleybuses operating from 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM. There are two types of tickets available: single-use paper tickets and electronic tickets, which can be purchased for various durations (monthly, 92-day, 365-day, or 1095-day). Learn foreign languages
